Care at this institution ranged from basic medical care on generally healthy inmates to intensive medical care on fragile outpatients who required frequent clinical contacts to prevent hospitalization for catastrophic events. Many required assistance with activities of daily living but did not need daily nursing care. Stabilization of medical or mental health conditions required periodic hospitalization. Examples of these medical conditions included cancer in remission less than a year, advanced HIV disease, severe mental illness in remission on medication, severe congestive heart failure, and end-stage liver disease.
